About

The Mercantile, formerly Pennsylvania Mercantile, opened its doors at 106 Market Street, Lewisburg in October of 1981 and moved to the current location in 1987.

Laurie started working at the store in 1985. She had managed all aspects of operations for 20 years. From buying to bookkeeping, she has been the pulse of The Mercantile.

In February 2005 Laurie purchased the business from the original owner, fulfilling a dream to own a business. She is the granddaughter of a well-known business owner, Helen G. Lyons, who owned and operated Helen G. Lyons Gift Shop for 30 years in Lewisburg. Laurie feels she learned the love of retail from her grandmother.

This store has been a favorite to local customers and college students, as well as visitors. It appeals to all ages from young children to the young at heart. From whimsical to practical...you will find it at The Mercantile.

"I cannot definitively describe this store...it can't be categorized like any other store...we are constantly getting fresh, fun, and functional merchandise in that is unlike anything you'll find in another store. We strive to be unique and fresh...that's what we are all about!"
- Laurie, owner

"The Mercantile is my favorite place to find a gift for the special people in my life."
