J & I Jewelry:

www.jandijewelry.com

Born in England, jewelry designer Ian Gibson has spent many years traveling the world absorbing various cultural influences. Schooled in geology and petrology, his love of rocks and fossils was transformational in his exploration of metals. Being completely self taught in the jewelry arts has led him down paths and to conclusions that have garnered his work acclaim for its freshness and originality.

Ian fabricates the various elements from raw materials by hand. Casting processes are not used. Using sterling silver as the base, the collection is developed with touches of semi precious stone, aspects of pearl, and hints of gold. An oxidizing patina is added to many pieces to embellish the hand etched details.

Ian and his wife Jessica formed the core of the company in 2000. They have since grown to a full time staff of seven. Aided by these talented local artisans, the finished work is produced in their studio in Philadelphia.

The Silver Spoon Story

As a child, Jennifer Northup spent time at her Great Grandmother's charming inn, The Crystal Palace, on the coast of Sydney Australia. The gorgeous, antique English silverware and fine china always fascinated her. When she inherited her heirloom collection, she was inspired to design a line of jewelry based on vintage patterns from the 1800's and early 1900's. Each piece is handcrafted in the USA of the highest quality, capturing the elegance of a bygone day.

Grandmother's Buttons:

www.grandmothersbuttons.com

Almost two decades have passed since Susan Davis and her 95-year-old grandmother spent the afternoon sifting through the odd assortment of tins and boxes that held the elderly lady's lifetime accumulation of buttons. The treasures they uncovered -- dazzling jet glass, lustrous carved pearl, intriguing brass storybook buttons -- begged to be converted into elegant jewelry rather than forgotten in musty tins. Thus, Grandmother's Buttons was born in 1985.

Grandmother's Buttons' authentic antique button jewelry was a huge hit and in the early nineties, the company expanded to form GB Collection, which produces replica button jewelry, as well as accessories and collectibles -- all inspired by these tiny fasteners of the past.
